Would it surprise you to know that a few years ago Social Security Disability decided that they were not going to be dumped upon by taking people who settled their Worker’s Compensation cases and have future treatment and who happened to be on Social Security Disability to pay for that? After all their argument is that this is the Worker’s Compensation insurance carrier’s responsibility to pay for your treatment as long as you need it. So what they decided is they decided that no individual receiving Medicare would be able to settle their case without notifying Medicare that they intend to do that, how much money the settlement is for, and get their approval in settling the case. And something that is much like the deductible on your insurance policy they give you a number that you have to spend before they start to pay for your treatment.

As you can imagine someone who is on Social Security Disability and receiving Medicare can make some unbelievable mistakes if this isn’t handled right.
