According to statistics from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, every day more than 12 workers die on the job in the United States, for a total of 4,500 deaths each year. Just as appalling, every year more than 4.1 million workers suffer a serious job-related injury or illness.
While the public is aware that some jobs are dangerous-such as commercial fishing, logging, mining, law enforcement, and fire rescue-the full breadth of the hazards faced by the ordinary worker is not appreciated. Our workers’ compensation lawyers want to change that. We intend to highlight the risks in the workplace that people face every day.

About Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation
Like all other states, Pennsylvania has a workers’ compensation program to pay employees when they are hurt on the job. Workers who are injured on the job, or have developed an illness or health condition from work, are entitled to receive medical treatment and income benefits to replace a portion of wages that are lost.
The Pennsylvania workers’ compensation law provides a mandatory no-fault system for compensating employees who suffer on-the-job injuries. Benefits are provided regardless of whether the employer or the employee was negligent. With very few exceptions, workers’ comp provides the only remedy for an injured worker against his or her employer. Someone who has an occupational illness or workplace injury can not sue the boss or coworkers.
The injured worker has the burden to prove his injury arose out of and occurred in the course of his employment.
While workers’ compensation law in Pennsylvania can provide financial compensation for medical care, rehabilitation, and some lost wages from disability, it does not pay for pain and suffering that an injured worker endures. If the responsibility for an injury is due to a third party-a contractor or subcontractor, or a visitor to the workplace premises-it may be possible that a Pennsylvania personal injury lawsuit can recover additional compensation for pain and suffering and other personal losses.

Do You Need Workers’ Compensation Benefits In Pennsylvania?
It’s as simple as this: if you have been injured at work, you have the right to receive benefits.
What’s not so simple is the series of hoops you have to jump through to get the benefits you deserve. Your employer may challenge your claim. The insurance company may try to deny you benefits, or say your injury wasn’t work-related. Your benefits may be terminated early because a workers’ comp insurance adjuster wants to save money for his company and thinks you won’t defend your rights to benefits.
Some people try to manage their Pennsylvania workers’ comp cases themselves. That’s your right, if you want it-just as you have the right to cut your own hair or prepare your own taxes. If you can handle it, we think that’s great.
